Kitchen islands have been in style for quite some time, and their popularity doesn’t seem to be fading anytime soon—and for good reason. In many homes, including mine, the kitchen island is the heart of the house. It’s a beloved spot where friends gather, wine flows, and snacks quickly disappear. It’s also often the perfect (and sometimes only) place to showcase a truly beautiful light fixture.

Style Advice: What to Hang Above a Kitchen Island

A cluster or a pair of pendants will instantly draw the eye and add personality to the space. While many styles work beautifully in this area, I’ve put together a few timeless and refined options you’ll never regret choosing:

  • Brass Pendant
Understated yet elegant, the beauty of a brass pendant lies in its craftsmanship. It pairs wonderfully with matching kitchen hardware and offers a touch of luxury without overwhelming the space. Take a look at the simple yet striking designs in our collection.

  • Lantern Lighting
Hanging a lantern over your kitchen island is a stunning choice, particularly for rooms with higher ceilings. The Kemble Hanging Lantern, available in a range of sizes and finishes, is a classic example that adds architectural interest and ambient warmth.

  • Cluster of Small Chandeliers
For a more dramatic statement, consider a cluster of small chandeliers like the Tivoli or Wilersley. These are timeless pieces that never fail to attract compliments from guests and add a layer of elegance to any kitchen.

  • Feather Pendant – A Showstopper
Our newest and most talked-about design is the Feather Pendant. Each feather is individually hand-blown, ensuring no two are alike. This piece is more than just a light—it’s a work of art. Fully customisable in metal finish and height, it adapts beautifully to both classic and contemporary interiors.

How High Should You Hang a Pendant Light?

As a general rule, allow 90–110 cm of clearance between the countertop and the bottom of the light. In rooms with especially high ceilings, you may want to increase this distance for balance. In smaller spaces (with ceiling heights around 230 cm or less), you can reduce the clearance to around 80 cm for a more proportionate look..
